The next step is to complete your Continuing Education. You may also desire to upgrade your education to a real estate broker’s license. Here's everything you need to know about both processes.
All real estate salespersons and brokers must renew their licenses every June 30th of odd-numbered years. Continuing Education must be completed by April 30th of odd-numbered years. To renew your real estate license, you have to fill out a simple online questionnaire. This goes for all types of licensees (e.g., Employing Brokers, Brokers of Record, Broker Salespersons, Salespersons, Referral Agents, etc.). This questionnaire must be completed online. If you forget to complete the questionnaire, your broker of record won't be able to renew your license, and it will expire. So, make sure to complete it on time!
Continuing Education (CE) requirements are the same for both brokers and salespersons. Both license holders must complete continuing education biennially, which means every other year.To qualify for license renewal or reinstatement, you must satisfy at least ONE of the CE requirements below (note that those renewing as referral agents do not need CE):
Complete 12 Hours of CE Coursework:
Both salespersons and brokers must complete 12 hours of CE coursework every other year to keep their licenses.
At least 6 of those 12 hours must be about core topics. Those 6 must include two hours of ethics and one hour of Fair Housing & New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. The remaining 6 credit hours can be elective or core.
OR:
Successfully Complete One or More Broker Pre-Licensing Courses:
If you complete one or more broker pre-licensing courses within the license term, that will fulfill your CE requirements. You won’t need to take any additional training!
Completing either one of these will fulfill your CE requirements.
Fortunately, The CE Shop makes it easy for you to complete your Continuing Education. Our CE courses are up-to-date with state regulatory requirements, so you don’t have to worry about compliance.Just enroll in your Continuing Education online and complete it at your own pace.
